New Officers Elected at Council on Aging Annual Meeting

The Catahoula Parish Council on Aging (COA) convened its Annual Membership Meeting and Board of Directors Meeting on July 8, 2010 at the Harrisonburg Auditorium. There was a nice turnout by the citizens of Catahoula Parish, but COA has plans for a much larger number attending their next meeting due to their membership drive.

Nominations were sought for outgoing board members and the following members were placed in nomination and elected by acclimation: Benjamin L. Sandifer, Kim Evans, David Mitchell, and Ann Wycoff.

After the Annual Membership meeting the Board of Directors had their meeting. The newly elected board members were welcomed to the board and an expression of appreciation was made to each out-going members.

β€œWe certainly are grateful for the services of those members departing,” said newly elected Board President Benjamin Sandifer after the Board elected its officers. The following are the officers of the Catahoula Council of Aging, Inc. for the fiscal year 2010-2011:

President – Benjamin L. Sandifer
Vice President – Sharron Terry
Secretary – Kim Evans
Treasurer – Ann Wycoff

As the newly elected President, Sandifer made the following committee appointments:

At the conclusion of the meeting the Executive Director, Bill Buie (Boo-e) said, β€œI look forward to working with the folks who have dedicated themselves to the welfare and betterment of the seniors of our parish.”

Buie invited everyone to stop by the COA facilities; a Senior Center in Sicily Island located at 351 Chisum Street, and another in Jonesville at 901 First Street.

β€œPlease come and visit us and see what we are doing for the seniors of our parish. If you are not a member of the Catahoula Council on Aging, please come by and register.” Buie noted.

The qualifications to join the COA are that you must be 16 years of age and be a resident of Catahoula Parish. If you are a senior age 60 or older and are interested in their services, please visit one of their centers or call 318.339.8111.
