THURSDAY UPDATE: Qualifying Brisk but Little Opposition

Catahoula Parish Clerk of Court Janet T. Payne said her office was “extremely busy” Wednesday qualifying 21 candidates for the Fall 2010 Elections. Qualifying for Sicily Island, Harrisonburg, and Jonesville’s Mayor and Aldermen and Harrisonburg’s Chief of Police plus all School Board seats began on Wednesday for the October 2 election and will continue through Friday at 5 PM.

In the School Board race, incumbents District 1 Dorothy Jean Watson; District 2 Jane Martin; District 3 Dewey W. Stockman; District 4 Lillian S. Aplin; District 5 Timothy Hank Tomlinson; District 7 Josephine Harbor Jones; and District 8 Letishia Hatcher all qualified on Wednesday.  No one received any opposition on Wednesday. 

Michael “Mike” Davis qualified in District 6, which is currently held by Charles “Bo” House, who will not run for re-election.  Also, Katie T. Adams, qualified in District 9, which is currently held by Wayne Sanders, who also will not be seeking re-election. 

As of Wednesday afternoon, incumbent Michael Oren Tubre qualified for Mayor of Harrisonburg. 

Also, in the Town of Jonesville, incumbent Hiram E. Evans, Jr. qualified and is challenged by James Michael “Mike” Wilson who also qualified. 

As of Wednesday afternoon, no candidates have qualified for the Mayor’s seat in Sicily Island.

In Harrisonburg, three candidates qualified for Alderman, Harold Maurice Sones, Jr., Louis “Five-O” Hatten and incumbent Charles Gregory Terry.

Qualifying for Alderman, Town of Jonesville are, incumbent Jackie C. Rouse, District 1 with no opposition; incumbent Josie Bullitts District 3 with opposition Melissa Fisher-Griffin qualifying.  District 4 incumbent Loria Hollins also qualified with no opposition and no candidates qualifying in Distirct 2 and District 5.

Sicily Island incumbent Donald Ashley was the only candidate qualifying for the Alderman seat in Sicily Island.

In the Chief of Police race in Harrisonburg, Lyndell Cornlious Atkins qualified.

***In the Harrisonburg and Sicily Island Aldermen races these seats are AT LARGE. The Election Code that refers to AT LARGE.  Short version:  Three to be elected.  Each candidate has to have majority vote in Primary to win.

  • THURSDAY UPDATE

Eight candidates qualifiied in the Catahoula Parish Clerks Office on Thursday for October 2 election.

Qualifying in the School Board race on Thursday in District 7 was Arthur Collins against incumbent Josephine Harbor Jones.

In the Alderman race in Harrisonburg, incumbent Charles Lee Watson qualified.

In District 1 Alderman for the Town of Jonesville, Benny Vault, Sr. qualified against incumbent Jackie C. Rouse and Catina R. Branch while Cashauna L. Smith qualified in District 4 against incumbent Loria Hollins.  In District 5 Fredrick Lee Smith qualified against incumbent Tommy Lee Branch, who also qualified today.

Incumbent James “Art” Goode qualified for mayor of Sicily Island.
