Big Crowds Attend Budweiser Doubleheader Weekend

It was another successful weekend of racing at the Louisiana Off Road Race Park in Jonesville as the Marsala Beverage Company presented the Budweiser Double Header Weekend. Saturday’s dirt drags drew a crowd of approximately 350 fans while Sunday’s horseshoe mud races had more than 1,000 fans in attendance.

Saturday’s dirt drags also included double points races for those classes rained out at the June 12 races at Marksville. The dirt drags had 65 entries in their nine classes including Lemar Brown and his new rail car which participated in the 4.6 Class and 4.2 Class.

Brown said the race buggy could generated more than a 1,000 horsepower and would reach speeds of more than 100 miles per hour on the 300’ race track. “When you let off that trans-brake it feels like a bomb exploded. It is like you are riding a rocket.”

A little bit of family history was achieved Saturday as Evan Park of Jonesville won in the PRO ET class with his truck Amanda’s Headache. “I started helping my dad built this truck when I was 12 years old and have been racing it for the last three years. I’m 18 now and this is the first time I have ever placed 1st with this truck.”

The truck is named after his mom, Amanda, and his dad is Lee.

Don’t forget about September 11th

Louisiana Off Road Race Park will host the very popular “Solid Gold Saturday Night” with Country Boy Mark Porter on September the 11th.

“We will have lots of contests for cash, plenty of games, lots of food and music,” McMillin said excitedly. “So make plans to be here and those of you who love to camp and RV now would be the time to reserve your spot.”

The radio station hosting the live event, WQNZ “95 Country” in Natchez, Miss., has already contacted Guinness Book of World Records in an attempt to compete for the largest crowd ever at a live radio show.

McMillin said plans include something for all the children during the day including a potential carnival and jumpers but he noted, “The Solid Gold Saturday Night is only for the adults. This is something you do not want to miss!”
