Jonesville Police Department Using New Computer System
Friday, July 23, 2010
The Jonesville Police Department is now using a new computer system and software to keep track of all calls and reports that must go with them.
Chief Bubba Roy said Tuesday the new system would allow his department to better track crimes and target problem areas in the town by creating a database of all traffic tickets and warrants.
In the past, without the new system, all citations and warrants had to be looked up manually while officers on the scene wasted valuable time waiting.
"Many times," said Chief Roy, "the information would not even be in alphabetical order, and it caused delays for our officers. We were basically 25 years behind other law enforcement departments.
"The new system allows our dispatchers to have immediate access to warrants and traffic tickets. We also now have a system in place that allows individuals paying their tickets to pay by credit card via the internet."
A representative from the Louisiana Law Enforcement Commission recently complimented JPD for already using a system that the Federal Government will be asking other departments to begin using in the future.
Chief Roy said he wanted to thank Officer Tommy Mayo for installing the new hardware and software and the Town Council for supporting its acquisition.
"Officer Mayo, by installing everything himself, saved the town about $30,000," said Chief Roy. "And we wouldn't have received any of the equipment without the support of the mayor and council."
Chief Roy also noted that the new system would assist the department with going ahead with the Neighborhood Watch Program that was discussed earlier this year.
