Miss-Lou Joins Forces for Eight-Month Old Tucker Bond

Tuesday, July 13, 2010 - David W. Ryan

Eight-month old Tucker Bond of Jena is currently in New Orleans being treated for a rare disease; cerebellar hypoplasia which is a rare brain disorder where a part of the brain (cerebellum) fails to develop fully. The cerebellum is the part of the brain that controls balance and movement.

To help with the high medical costs, which are not covered by insurance, folks in the Miss-Lou area are joining forces to host the Tucker Bond Benefit Bass Tournament. The event is set for August 7th at the 4-Rivers Park in Jonesville with $2,000 in guaranteed payouts.

Eddie’s Marine with the help of their team members will co-host the event and the weigh-in will be conducted by Casting for Cash/Eddie's Marine at the 4-Rivers Park in Jonesville.

Boats can launch from Jonesville’s Little River Park or Harrisonburg from 5:30 until 8 AM and the fishing starts at 6 AM.

All fishermen know it is tough to fish on the 4-Rivers in August but you can bet someone is going to win – why not one of you local anglers or hey let’s not forget the women.

Entry fee is $100 per boat in two-man teams with total weight for five fish. There will also be a Big Bass option for $10.

For those not fishing, the tournament needs more sponsors and a minimum sponsorship of $100 will get your name or company displayed at the park and in the newspaper. And remember all donations are tax deductible.

While the Miss-Lou is trying to take care of some of the expenses for his parents, Brandi (Boyette) and Lance Bond, Tucker continues his expensive treatments.

“This treatment is not yet approved by the FDA,” Brandi Bond said from the New Orleans hospital. “But our doctor has had great success using a hyperbaric chamber, which is 100% oxygen, in treating children with cerebral palsy and autism. And now it has been approved for the treatment of diabetes.”

According to Brandi, Tucker will go through at least seven weeks of six treatments Monday through Friday in forty hour blocks. “Tucker will continue treatments as long as the doctors see improvement and we’ve seen a lot so far.”

Brandi said prior to starting treatment Tucker seldom smiled and really didn’t move much. “Now, sometimes he will just look at someone and smile; and he is trying to get up and move all the time.”

Brandi also wanted to let everyone “back home” know how much they appreciated everything everyone has done for their family. “It’s been really amazing!”

For those who may not know, Tucker is the grandson of Darrel Boyette, one of the owners of Boyette and McCann Body Shop in Jonesville and the great-grandson of Mrs. Lucille Bond of Jonesville.
