USSSA World Series to Have a Little Taste of Catahoula

Friday, July 9, 2010 - David W. Ryan

The USSSA World Series will have a little taste of Catahoula on the field this year as eight year Josh Polk, the son of Catahoula natives and Sicily Island graduates Kimberly and Jason Polk will play for the Arkansas State Champions as a member of the East End Tigers.

The slick fielding center fielder helped lead the Tigers to an undefeated 24-0 record as they won the Arkansas State Championship to qualify for the USSSA World Series for eight year olds and under.  It will be played in Kansas City, Mo., July 14th - 18th at the Fountain Bluff Sports complex under the direction of Global Sports Baseball. This year’s tournament will feature teams from Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Josh gets his great athletic ability honestly as his parents were star players at Sicily Island High School.  Jason was a football, baseball, and basketball player for the Tigers prior to graduation in 1993. Kimberly played basketball and softball, while also being a cheerleader for the Lady Tigers prior to her graduation in 1996.

The couple and their three children make their home in the East End Community in Saline County, in central Arkansas where Jason works for State Farm Insurance and is a full-time youth coach.

Josh’s family roots run deep in Catahoula Parish. He is the Grandson of Johnnie and Becky Coldiron of Sicily Island, Dennis Dosher, formerly of the Sandy Lake community, Raymond and Beverly Polk, formerly of Sicily Island but now residing in Denham Springs, La.; and Josh is the great-grandson of predominate lifelong residents of Catahoula Parish the late John and Pearlie Polk of Sicily Island, the late Quincy (Pete) and Hallye Dosher of Sandy Lake and the late R. R. Reeves, Jr. of Harrisonburg and Dorothy Dale Reeves of Vidalia.

“We are extremely excited about the opportunity Josh has to play in this upcoming tournament,” Jason said. “I would also like to thank all our family and friends that donated or bought raffle tickets to help raise the $6,000 cost to cover the team’s expenses while in Kansas City.”

A Catahoula seedling, Josh Polk, will play in the USSSA World Series for 8 and under this July 14-18 in Kansas City, Mo. He is the son of Catahoula natives Kimberly and Jason Polk, formerly of Sicily Island.
