Despite Numerous Penalties, Turnovers; Bears win 18-6
Sunday, September 5, 2010 - David W. Ryan
Despite losing seven fumbles and the teams combining for 33 penalties, Block (1-0)used some big plays to defeat the visiting Vidalia Vikings (0-1) 18-6 in the season opener for both teams. Missed opportunities and conditioning problems could have resulted in a nightmare game for the Bears and Coach Vault who played the game without 14 players.
With the game tied at 6-6 the skies opened up and limited the field conditions and contributed to both teams' sluggish performance until sophomore Ty Bell gave himself a birthday present in the form of a 55 yard punt return to give the Bears the 12-6 lead. Bell had already returned the Vikings 2nd quarter kickoff 76 yards to the Vikings 18 but a fumble ended that drive. >>>more![]()
First Cotton of the Year; Name Dropping Five Kids?
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 - David W. Ryan
When a was as little boy, err…, make that a young boy, I can remember even before I could read seeing pictures of farmers standing by these huge bales of cotton on the front page of the Catahoula News-Booster.
As I got older, and could read, I learned these farmers took great pride in being the farmer with the first bale of cotton during the harvest season. As best I can tell is was some sort of annual tradition. >>>more![]()

Ladies and Hellrazors; Getting Ready for October 1st
Monday, August 30, 2010 - Jeff Trisler
A few weeks ago I was invited by a friend of mine to attend a bow shoot. It had been a while since I shot and since I had a few 3-D tournaments coming up it was as good of a time as any to get a little practice.
It was then that I was informed this was not just any shoot. It was lightly classified as a “Ladies Only” event and if us guys were nice we could sling some carbon down range once the Ladies were done.
That Saturday evening my daughter, Alaina, and I headed to Jena, Louisiana where we followed directions just outside of town to the Lost Acres Ranch owned and operated by Billie Norman. >>>more![]()

Bowman Scores Twice in 22 Seconds as Block Wins 20-13
Sunday, August 29, 2010 - David W. Ryan
Senior wingback and linebacker Preston Bowman scored two touchdowns in 18 seconds Saturday night in the Vidalia Jamboree for the come-from-behind Block 20-13 win over Delhi Charter. However in between touchdowns, Block’s lack of depth and conditioning early in the season showed.
It looked like a route early as Block stuff the Gators on three straight plays, causing a fumble, and creating -14 yards of offense. And on Blocks’ first play from scrimmage VaShawn Davis took a handoff up the middle and sprinted outside down the sidelines for a 52 yard touchdown. With new fullback Trey Vault’s 3 yard dive up the middle for the extra point, Block led 8-0. >>>more![]()

We’ve all heard the stories where some little minor problem leads to the discovery of a potentially major problem. Like the guy who accidently shoots himself in his side while he camps 50-60 miles from the nearest hospital.
While having the bullet routinely removed and before he is sewn up, doctors discover his appendix is about to burst and rush him into emergency surgery. If his appendix had burst while he was camping, he mostly likely would have died. >>>more![]()

You Don't Want to Miss the Trip of a Lifetime!

Opinion letters in newspapers amaze me. Writers present "their truth" by writing skillfully worded letters to convince readers that their view is correct. Agnostics, who dispute the Bible, can make a powerful case to those who do not know biblical truths for themselves.
That is why the Bible tells us to study to show ourselves approved unto God....rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Tim. 2:15) We need to know the scriptures that support our beliefs. >>>more![]()

So many new hunting and fishing laws went into effect Sunday that there’s even one clarifying who should govern and administer hunting and fishing laws.
It’s a byproduct of a larger effort mounted by Sen. Rob Marionneaux, D-Livonia, during this year’s legislative session. That’s when Marionneaux unsuccessfully pushed legislation to eliminate the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission.
Instead, Marionneaux ended up with Act 777, which will give lawmakers the final say over the rule-making process that establishes hunting seasons, shrimping zones, fish quotas and other regulations. Right now, for one final day at least, that responsibility falls to the Wildlife and commission. >>>more![]()
