Block High School Class of 1966 alum Henry Bordelon shows off his catches of the day while vacationing in Alaska last month. "The only words I have for Alaska is beautiful, just beautiful. Henry lives and works in New Orleans for the Corps of Enigneers as a Lead Program Analyst, Task Force Hope. The one on the left is a halibut and on the right is a Yellow-Eye Rockfish.

Morgan Pecanty, Sonja Spann's youngest daughter caught her first fish on Sunday, July 4th.  A nice 2 1/2 lb bluecat. They were fishing in Tensas River. Hank Spann, her step-dad spent several hours baiting her hook & taking fish off  for her. She caught two more about this size. Thanks Sonja, we know that is a special memory of the family.

Now this is the way you eat watermelon on a hot summer day in Louisiana. This is five-year old Cass Fairbanks who was caught in action by his mom, Candy.

Wildsville's Randy Stockman, lead investigator for the Vidalia Police Department, was able to stop and snap this photo of a young black bear while driving on Hwy. 15 from Vidalia to Ferriday.

Sidney's Spinks mom, Toni, snapped this shot when a little of Sidney's birthday cake got redirected from her mouth to her face via one of her friends. Ahhh...Happy Birthday!!!

Lori Jackson sends us this beautiful photo of the moon coming up over the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Tenn., one morning last week while the family was vacation there.

Trent Coldiron once again proves he is the most unusual fisherman around these parts as he caught this little bream in the gut. In addition to the gut, Trent, has now caught fish in the eyeball, fins, and back. Thanks for the cool shot Alisa...

Here are a couple of sensation photos sent to us by Molly Wyant of Enterprise. Up top Molly captures a couple of humingbirds trying to get at the sweet liquid through the bottle while a third hummingbird to the right found the easy way to drink all he wants. I have heard of photos that show the sky on fire but never seen it but here Molly catches this great shot of "fire in the sky" at sunset.

Pam Swayze sent us this Norman Rockwell moment from the February 12 blizzard we had through out Catahoula Parish. Awesome photo!

Whitney Goldstein sent us this wonderful picture of her eight year-old son, Nate, playing in the hay fields with his cur pups Buddy and Boomer.

You don't see this everyday! Robert Swayze said he and members of his family were fishing in Wallace Lake and heard something overhead. They looked up and saw these two hugh planes and the one on top was refueling the second plane. Thanks to Katie for snapping this shot and sending it in...

SWEET REVENGE -- Tanner Coldiron spreads a little grease on his mom, Alisa Coldiron's face prior to the start of the Lawnmower races Saturday morning.

Thanks to Mrs. Pam Swayze for these facisnating photos of a June bug molting or is it a Cicada? We looked far and wide for a definitive answer on the internet and so far all we could find are conflicting reports. So we will ask all of our CatahoulaLife.com readers. Is this a June bug, Cicada, or a trick question? info@catahoulalife.com The answer is Cicada...

Look who we ran into Saturday night. None other than Catahoula natives Diana (Roark) and Brian Wade who now reside in Winnsboro. They were both helping out at the Jim Bowie Relay Station in Enterprise which has been booming of late. According to owner Raymond Nugent they served 460 plates last Saturday and from the looks of it they will beat that record this past Saturday night. Part of the big crowds might be the continued great entertainment like Southern Sound from Monroe, La. Husband and wife, (from left) David Worthington and Ashley join keyboard player Ann McNichol and husband and wife, Gloria and Fred Checks for some great songs of nostalgia from the 50s and 60s.

Ran into Mrs. Mary Mayo at the Very Special Arts Festival last week and she told me she had caught a 16 inch and near three pound white perch while fishing in Larto Lake several months back. I had never seen a white perch that big so here's her proof. What's better is the comment she added: "David, here is the picture of me and my fish I caught in Larto nine months ago. It was 16 inches and close to 3 pounds -- and the man I caught 46 years ago!" Awwww, how sweet is that?

At at the 2010 Shrine Circus in Monroe earlier in the year, Catahoula Parish was well represented in the Clown Fraternity with our very own Wrangler the Clown (far right - with the big feet - no not that one - the yellow feet and hat) or better known locally as Justin B. Spinks. The local Parhams Fire Chief participated all weekend at circus and later said: "When you can bring a smile to just one child, there is no greater feeling."

From Mrs. Marilyn Campbell comes this cool photo via her cousin Jeff Hogan who works in the oil industry.  He lives in Lafayette and is so interested in finding his family history at Black River.  Jeff writes:  "Hi, here is a picture of the sunset in the Persian Gulf offshore Saudi Arabia. Taken across the heliport. The rig is a Saipen rig.  Italian company.  Rig name is PN-5 (PN = PERRO NEGRO)
